Human remains believed to have been decomposing for at least three weeks were discovered cemented inside a barrel near the Machap Water Reservoir on Sunday, 13 September.

Alor Gajah police chief Supt Ahmad Abu Bakar said the barrel was discovered by three people who were fishing at the reservoir at around 11.40 a.m.

He said the trio cut open the top of the barrel after noticing it by the roadside and found bones cemented inside.

They subsequently lodged a police report, prompting officers to arrive at the scene around noon.

Police later sought assistance from the Melaka Fire and Rescue Department to remove the barrel and retrieve the remains.

The remains have since been sent to Melaka Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine their identity and cause of death.

Ahmad urged anyone with a missing family member to lodge a police report, which could help police with their investigation.
