We were invited to the recently opened Hugo Steampunk Premium Lounge located in PJ. If you’re wondering if this is the first of its kind, you would be right. The place is decked in steampunk paraphernalia, but what was really impressive were the cocktails. These drinks were meticulously concocted by a passionate mixologist; one can sip on cocktails such as the Blue Submarine that’s made with lemon, honey, vodka, orange liqueur, and passion fruit to confirm how legit their mixologist is. Alternatively, we’d recommend trying out cocktails that are fused with Asian ingredients and flavourings, from Chrysanthemum Martini to a drink that’s infused with red dates. Just chat with the bartenders on what you’d like, and they’ll most likely cater a drink off-menu for you.

But on to their grand launch, one can expect performances by a live band and choreography by dazzling Broadway dancers. There will be promotions too, where cocktails will cost RM20 each; whereas beer drinkers would get a free jug with a purchase of two. Finally, for those of you who want something strong, you can buy a 12-year-old Singleton for RM499 nett. While in a flurry of drinks and entertainment, you can join the lucky draw where you can stand a chance to win a trip to Redang — 3 days 2 nights, or the other prize, 4 days 3 nights — that includes accommodation, ferry transfers, meals, and a marine trip. One final act of their generosity is that they will be handing out a customized steampunk-themed diary on a first-come-first-served basis, which can be engraved with your name for free.
