Move Over ‘Hot Tongan’, China is Simping Over M’sian Athlete Welson Sim As He Trends On Weibo
The 2021 Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony held last week (23 July) was quite the spectacle. While most of us were thirsting over “Hot Tongan” aka Pita Taufatofua and his oiled-up bod, China netizens were eye-balling our own Malaysian athlete, Welson Sim.
The 24-year-old swimmer is part of the Malaysian team at the opening ceremony and his brief two-second close up during the live telecast of the event sent netizens into a frenzy that he even started trending on Weibo, China’s Twitter-like social media platform.
What’s funnier is that Welson didn’t even show his face as he was wearing a face mask! Oof, the power he holds…
Pictures of Welson can also be seen circulating Weibo with many figuring out who he is and through comments shared by Chinese netizens, Welson apparently has a very handsome face. Some even admitted to falling in love with the attractive swimmer when they first saw him during the opening ceremony.
It doesn’t stop there as our neighbours above also spotted the national athlete and he immediately became a hot topic on Thailand’s Twitter feed.
While you have to admit that Welson is… hot. Let’s not take away from the amazing reputation he has as an athlete. He has and currently is representing Malaysia in the 200 metres and 400-metre freestyle swimming categories. Back in the 2017 SEA Games, he won gold medals for both of these events!
Welson is legit and we wish him success at the Olympics. With or without the gold, we couldn’t be prouder!
