House, rnb and rock, mix all these together with a couple of Hennessy cocktails and you get Hennessy’s ‘Global Art of Mixing’. With Bunkface, Shawn Lee, DVJ G Mix and DJ Sarasa it was the perfect recipe for a full blown night of mayhem and fun, while the free flow of drinks which kept everyone in very high spirits throughout the night.

The artist line up was going to be an interesting mash up of genres – it left me wondering how the  night turn out and would the many different genres be able to keep the crowded entertained. Also for the first time in Malaysia, Hennessy introduced two of their newest brews, Hennessy Citrus and Hennessy Berry.

First up was Bunkface who brought the rocking and kept the crowd jumping. Though it was a strange change of pace, the concert feel changed the atmosphere of the event with a fresh feeling to it. Next up, Shawn Lee was the Malaysia Beatbox Challenge 2009 champion and #9 ranked World Beatboxer. He displayed amazing beatboxing skills; it was hard to tell if it was the song playing in the background or his beatboxing because it was that good!

DVJ G Mix showed us his talent at visualising sounds with awesome visual effects that were hypnotic and trippy! Losing themselves in the awesome music and visuals, G Mix certainly kicked the party up a notch and from this point on everyone was dancing.

Also all the way from Japan, we had the hot DJ Sarasa aka Silverboombox heating up the dancefloor with her amazing hip hop mixing skills. Sadly though we didn’t hear many of her original hits as she mostly played the generic stuff you hear at most clubs.

The improved Hennessy Mixing Zone added 4 new zones this year: Hennessy Mix Master, Hennessy Mixing Bar, the Hennessy Digital Light Art Effect, and a Hennessy Live Twitting Zone. Guests were free to express themselves in each of the zones and stood the chance of winning a bottle of Hennessy VSOP and an IPod Touch if they were the most creative.

Though it was very confining with the limited space to move about both in the VIP area upstairs and the regular section downstairs, the overall mood and environment more than made up for it.

Hennessy Artistry ‘Global Art Of Mixing’ was held on 19 March at The Opera. Snaps here.
