heineken thirst studio auditions
I just hit up Heineken Thirst Studio’s private auditions last night at Zouk and Velvet Underground. The rock bands were promising–Superbar made a great effort and Lied were their usual rocking selves. But what impressed me most was what was broiling in the dance arena. JUICE DJ Quest 2003 First Runner Up Blastique has come back from the UK armed with a degree and a new deck trio, and they practically tore up the wallpaper at VU! It was super funky and super explosive (and it made me proud that he was first discovered by JUICE). Transient Vortex (often spotted performing at Loops Collective events) maintained the musical highs with drum and bass that I was definitely digging–dance judge Haze was so impressed they won a masterclass production session with him. After their big room debut at JUICE’s 4th Anniversary Bash at Ruums, Cosmicspacemunkys stole the show at tonight’s auditions with a house set as smooth as ice cream. Their ingredients worked and got them chosen to represent Malaysia on a global scale so keep your ears peeled for their comeback set on 16 September at KL Tower once they’ve gone through the teachings of international Producer Paul Epworth in London. But this isn’t the end for Blastique & Co. and Transient Vortex (the former also won a masterclass with Haze); I’d certainly want them playing at our next JUICE party!
