If you have a Tumblr account (and even if you don’t), you’ve probably heard of Gotye and his infectious single ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’. Famous for its tear-jerking honesty and unique musicality, ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ has been used in all things hipster and heart-breaking. The Belgian-Australian musician and singer-songwriter has managed to encapsulate an emotion that so many people find difficult to express and explain in a song. He doesn’t subscribe to the conventional piano or acoustic guitar to get his tender feelings across though, instead using samples from Luiz Bonfa’s ‘Seville’ and xylophone sounds to create the melody hook of the song. It’s a refreshing take on the classic break-up song, and the “conversation” he has with Kimbra resonates with anyone who’s ever gone through a messy break-up… which is pretty much everyone we know! The song has been topping charts everywhere and has received praise from numerous critics. We almost shed a tear after listening to it!

Listen to ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ below, it’s the first single off Gotye’s third album Making Mirrors, which was released in the UK on February 13 and has already hit the No. 1 spot. Click here for more Gotye.
