2013 will prove to be an exciting time for music lovers in KL, with Upfront, a series of intimate live shows, created by The Bee to bring fans closer to their favourite bands on stage. As the name implies, it is as exclusive and up close as one can get. June’s Upfront Presents The Jezebels, launched the series to an exciting start, with the promise of lots more good things to come. For starters, the first quarter of 2013 brings English post rockers 65daysofstatic on 8 January ’13, Britrock band The Vaccines on 11 January ’13 , and Pitchfork it-girl Grimes on 12 March ’13!

65daysofstatic: 8 January 2013, RM78 (presale) ; RM98 (doorsale)

65daysofstatic, an instrumental post-math rock band from Sheffield, England, are known for their massive live performances, having toured alongside bands such as Metallica, Lostprophets, Linkin Park and Deftones at major music and dance festivals. Their album, We Were Exploding Anyway, saw the band focus on bringing dance beats and soaring guitarwork to the table and kicking their chaotic live shows up a couple of notches. Their unique sound have caught the ears of the world and allowed them to transcend beyond the usual festival circuit to embark on new adventures, from warehouse raves in Russia playing to sold out Japanese festivals.

The Vaccines: 11 January 2013, RM113 (presale) ; RM 133 (doorsale)

The Vaccines need no introduction to the indie scene, having been compared to the likes of The Ramones, The Strokes, and Jesus and Mary Chain (had each of these bands been the patron saints of ordinary suburban kids). Their latest album, The Vaccines Come of Age, follows their platinum-selling, BRIT nominated and NME award winning debut, What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? released in 2011. The band has just  completed a sold out arena tour of the UK.

Grimes: 12 March 2013, TBA

Claire Boucher has found the perfect matrimony between human vocals and the heartbeat of a machine. As Grimes, her music is that of a techno elf frolicking on a field of grass in The Matrix. Recent album Visions was easily our favourite album of this year, hearing and seeing it performed musically and visually — embodying the arts of 2D, performance, dance, video and sound — will definitely be the highlight of next year.

Tickets go on sale starting 6 November and can be purchased at both outlets of The Bee in Publika and Jaya One. For more updated information on Upfront at The Bee, check out The Bee’s website here or their Facebook page here.
