As neighbourhood pubs go, we are pretty spoilt for choice if you stay in city suburban areas. In the last few years we’ve seen the rise in popularity in ‘authentic-as-it-gets’ pubs – most of them becoming quite the franchise business too. The problem about that lies in the fact that after a while you get sort of a “fast food chain” situation where soon enough, every pub is exactly the same wherever you go. Where’s the charm, baby?

George & Dragon in BSC trumps a lot of other ‘hip’ pubs at the moment. Although it is under the Finnegan’s umbrella, the formula isn’t as repetitive as say, franchised pubs. Located at a quiet corner in BSC, its cute illustrated signage easily attracts curious newcomers and its no frills Tudor decor keeps charming the regulars. “The name George and Dragon is inspired by the legend of St George (patron saint of England) and his courageous slaying of a dragon and subsequent rescue of a beautiful princess”, says the pub. Walk in and you can’t help but be charmed by its mock Tudor interior with its half-timbering walls and beams and with its plush seating, the people at George and Dragon try to recreate the authentic look and feel of an English pub to a tee. You can pick from 3 different areas to enjoy your night with your friends: the main bar area, the external bar located at the spacious terrace next to the street – ideal if watching the world go by is your thing or you could pick the darts corner lounge to enjoy, well, a game of darts.

Drinks The bar has a wide variety of taps to choose from with The Old Speckled Hen, Strongbow Cider and Hoegaarden Witbier being the most sought after by regular patrons. A good selection of wines and premium single malt whiskies are also available.

Happy Hour From Monday til Saturday (12 noon – 8pm) and all day Sunday, you can get prices are (glass/pint) Guinness (RM15/RM24), Tiger (RM11/RM19), house pouring spirits like Skyy Vodka, Famous Grouse and Jose Cuervo tequila at RM12. Other draught beers like Strongbow Cider (RM18/RM31) or Old Speckle Hen English Ale (RM18/RM28) have HH deals too!

Food Lovely pub grub food at its best! English favourites like their Fish and Chips (RM20), Crispy Whole Pork Knuckle (RM60) and good ole’ Bangers and Mash (RM22). Watch out for their weekend breakfasts!

Music Policy You will hear the merry sounds of people cheering as George and Dragon is equipped with three wide LCD screens and one large projector screen that’s always tuned to the sports channel.
