The name Petit Biscuit was previously associated with the hit chill track titled ‘Sunset Lover’ that took over the Soundcloud world by storm. Only 15 years old then, Mehdi Benjelloun’s breakthrough song was a different take on beats – it was mellow, melancholic, and true to its name. The track hits off – tucked cosily in chill wave related themed playlists on Spotify – putting Petit Biscuit on an obscure list of artistes while his music is already treated like a national treasure in his homeland France. Come November 10 on the musician’s 18 birthday, Petit Biscuit will release his debut album titled Presence, teasing listeners with the first track off the record with the Panama collaborated track ‘Waterfall’.
Although inspired by a movement of musicians who revolutionised electronic with future bass, Petit Biscuit steered his direction into the opposite side of the spectrum with minimalistic drums, claps, kicks and instruments. ‘Waterfall’ is already a unique first preview of what Presence has to offer, bringing in the voices of Panama with lyrics unlike his previous EP that was entirely made up of vocal chops. It’s beat heavy and uplifting, but still carries the signature sound of Petit Biscuit.
