Florence (+ the Machine) Got the Love for The xx at a London Gig
Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine recently joined The xx at the O2 Brixton Academy’s Night and Day residency in London for their final night. Oliver Sim introduced Welch to fans and there they performed a powerful, evocative rendition of Florence + The Machine’s cover of ‘You Got the Love‘ originally sung by Candi Stanton in 1986.
The in-person performance of The xx’s remix saw the incomparable powerhouse Florence, draped in a long flowing dress, exchanging lyrics with Oliver in a laidback tone, slowly building up the momentum to the beat where Florence pranced across the stage like a bird set free and belted out ‘You Got the Love’.

Earlier in the band’s London run, they had welcomed acts like Robyn, Cat Power, Sampha, and Jehnny Beth on stage to perform with them as well. The xx are currently touring behind their warm new album I See You, where they will be bringing more than just music royalty Welch along for the ride as well. You can expect some incredible alternative r’n’b and electronic artistes on the lineup.
They have also been booked for NOS Alive 2017, a North American tour as well as Coachella.
