Are you guilty of coming home and literally chucking the contents of your pockets everywhere? Keys, wallet, handphone and lighter?

Those RM1 disposable lighters can’t be all bad can they? They’re cheap, work reasonably well and if you lose it, hey, who cares right? Wrong.

A staggering 50% of fire related deaths are due to these so-called ‘great’ lighters. They are poorly manufactured imitations, produced with no safety precautions… essentially they’re a ticking time bomb in your pocket.

By leaving your lighter around, you’re asking for children to pick up that ‘colourful toy’ and simply play. In September 2010, a family nearly lost their home in Kampung Bukit Tempurung when their son ‘played’ with a pocket lighter.

Bic are striving to work with our Government authorities in an effort to educate everyone about safely manufactured lighters. They currently have their own brand of lighter (equally as colourful) that has a child lock system to prevent any extremely unwanted flames. Also the hard casing means it won’t unexpectedly blow up if you drop it (always a bonus).
