FAD 2009 winner: Ana Bolene Meroño

Watch this space for more of Ana Belen Meroño’s work. The young fashion design student from Nottingham Trent University recently captured the attention of judges and fashion addicts when she won the Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD) competition held last month in Vauxhall, South London.

Beating over 50 hopefuls she and others had to explore the brief ‘Urban Holographic- Retrofuturism, Refraction and Mirroring Light’. The idea required entrants to delve into the idea of space travel in the 60s – kinda like how JUICE feels about being able to moonwalk, totally out of this world!

Being a child of the 21st century, Miss Meroño did have a difficult task before her, not only traveling to outer space but back into time as well. Fortunately, the gal scored high above 1st runner up Felicity Baggett and second runner up Camilla Kennedy and took home the £2000 prize money, plus rare industry work replacement opportunity with Paul Costelloe. Ana’s first piece on the catwalk featured a jacket with digital Op-Art print, and the following number showcased a cloud print dress with armour like detailing – think Space Odyssey meets The Jetsons.

We are over the moon with the prospect of blooming fashion designers like Ana, and JUICE is sure there will be more to come from Ana Belen Meroño, so remember the name folks!
