Elvis Maswanganyi aka DJ Mujava was raised in the mean streets of Pretoria, South Africa. Inspired by DJ Fresh, DJ Oskido, Masters At Work, Revolution and Loop Masters, Mujava ditched school to pursue music. Ordinarily this is something JUICE wouldn’t condone but humbly starting with a keyboard, the young beatmaster doggedly scrapped together what little funds he could and learned the evil art of music programming – we approve! Pretoria based community stations soon started rotating Mujava’s tracks and thanks to insistent taxi drivers who made it mandatory to play his CD, and (possibly) their reputation for mouthing off, that buzz has arrived here on the back of the hypnotically inescapable bleep fest that is ‘Township Funk’.
