One upping the thesaurus is a quirkily named app Gobby. This is an app for both iPhone and Android users that helps explain the meaning behind the more common/frequently used idioms so you will know whether to start a ‘foaming at the mouth’ when someone calls you a ‘fuddy duddy’.
Making it user friendly, the braintrust behind Gobby has divided the idioms into 10 categories like romance, work and insults so that you can easily and quickly look them up. Each idiom comes with examples on how to use it and in what context as well as a pronunciation audio clip.
With its launch, Gobby is running a contest ‘Gobby It Up’ whereby users construct a creative sentence using the 300 idioms on Gobby. The grand prize winner will walk away with an iPad 2 and have his/her winning sentence immortalized on a Gobby tee sold worldwide.
