Deerhoof: Deerhoof vs Evil (Polyvinyl)
10 albums and over a decade into their career and we’re still trying hard to grasp the musings of San Fran art rock quartet Deerhoof.
Nevertheless, their experimental kitsch-ness on Deerhoof Vs Evil, with soaring melodies and messy arrangements that change with the impulse of an ADD kid, are instantly recognisable traits and have garnered fans from other art hipsters like Sleigh Bells, Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear and Of Montreal. Satomi Matsuzaki holds down the chaos with her fragile voice while the rest of the band jams on whimsically, making this album more silly-fun than geeky-uptight.
