The first Covid-19 cluster amongst flood victims has been detected at a temporary evacuation centre (PPS) in Bentong, Pahang yesterday.
The health ministry has tested 104 people in the cluster as of noon yesterday. So far, 10 people have been found positive for C0vid-19 while 94 other cases were negative.
The Karak Setia cluster started with a local woman who was found positive on December 19th after undergoing a symptomatic individual screening. She showed symptoms of fever, cough, flu and a loss of sense of taste since December 18th, according to the health ministry.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that “the cause of transmission was believed due to social interactions among flood victims at the PPS.”
All positive cases and close contacts have been isolated from other flood victims.
Dr Noor Hisham said that as of 3pm yesterday, 429 cases of Covid-19 have been detected among flood victims, nation wide.
Currently, there are 159 PPS in operation at Kelantan, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka collectively.
