The Jakarta club scene has always known to be one of the most vibrant in the region. It’s no surprise that 14 year old Kubil found his passion and dabbled in the art of DJinig at a tender age. Now 22, Kubil partners Arae, who also started DJing as a teenager, at 18. Indo dudes Kubil and Arae formed Cool Dude Society with the name inspired by slapstick cult movie Dude, Where’s My Car?

Kubil, who came to Malaysia in 2007, quickly landed himself a gig opening for Defected at Hura Hura alongside Lapsap at the now defunct Loft at Zouk, and hasn’t looked back since. Arae is better known for his debut in the mad AquaSonic Rave Party 2002 in Jakarta. Cool Dude Society boys has been spotted spinning at Mansion, BED, Maison and Zouk.

As Cool Dude Society, the pair digs house, techno, hip hop, disco music. The guys cite DJ legend Laurent Garnier was their main influence. “A DJ is likened to a radio, people just wanna keep tuned in to things they don’t know” it’s for this reason that Cool Dude Society dislikes playing mainstream music. “It’s everywhere!” Kubil tells JUICE. Instead, they choose to browse online for dope alternative music and become a platform to showcase these raw talents. “For the love of music, let’s not waste these talents. You’d never know what they’ve got (in store).” Aww… such big hearts, no?
