Even classics that tackle the meaning of the Christmas spirit can be a chore to go through at times, though it does make Mom happy when we all watch it with her. 

That said, there’s always time for something that can make us laugh or awe us with action at this time of year.

Featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sinbad, and young Anakin Skywalker himself, Jake Lloyd, this movie will make you want to get your own Turbo Man action figure for Christmas. 

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Controversial take but we prefer the second Home Alone movie to the first one, though the first one is still undoubtedly a bona fide classic. 

Maybe it’s because we see Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin interacting with more people in this one, and seeing his wit extend beyond the confines of his house is great to see as well. 

Nightmare Before Christmas

Learning the meaning of Christmas through the eyes of scary monsters and super creeps is definitely a movie that could only have come from the mind of Tim Burton. 

Director Henry Selick and his team brought this timeless classic to life back in 1993, and after watching this, you may be tempted to check out his other films like Coraline. 

Violent Night 

If you’re sick of hearing people saying that Die Hard is a Christmas movie, Violent Night actually takes a similar premise and puts Santa Claus in the role of an action hero. 

“Violent” is definitely apt as Santa Claus pulls more than a handful of John Wick-like takedowns against robbers who are holding a family hostage. 

The Muppets Christmas Carol

Charles Dickens captivated the world with his story of Ebenezer Scrooge and the road to redemption, and yet the best adaptation involves the likes of Kermit the Frog. 

With Michael Caine as the stingy old main character, The Muppets Christmas Carol is the closest thing to a perfect Christmas movie in our book. 

The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special

Not many of the current slate of Marvel movies and TV shows have quite captured the initial magic of the franchise, except for James Gunn’s directorial efforts. 

The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special is what happens when a group of aliens try to bring Christmas to their Earthling friend, with hilarious results. 

A Boy Called Christmas

A film that has more in common with Elf of all things, especially with how it puts the Chrismas elves in the spotlight.

That said, A Boy Called Christmas brings charm and wonder in a fantasy film package that the entire family can enjoy.
