The annual award aims specifically at the contributions of songwriters, producers, composers and DJs who have invested talent and time for years but are yet to be exposed in the industry. With this award, it is to ensure that the local productions aim high and encourage more talents to step in to studio work and to put Malaysia in the international circuit. Music genres include EDM, house, techno, trance, break-beat, drum ‘n’ bass, dubstep, triphop, funk, and hiphop.

An annual affair, Choons Awards aims to recognise efforts of our national community of electronica music producers and DJs, to push the boundaries and widen the scope of the local clubbing industry with a producer of the year award and a host of DJs awards. A new award will also specially introduced this year as the East Malaysia community of Sabah & Sarawak will be a part of the party. The Producers Award, will now accept global entries, a significant move to encourage globalisation from the Malaysian scene.

Nominations run from 15 January until 25 February. The nominations are open for registered users only. All registered users will be able to nominate their favourite DJs, bars, clubs in various categories. The most mentioned name on the nominations list will be the nominee for Online Voting which will begin on 3 March.

Category 1 – Producer of the Year

From 3 March til 3 May, tracks submission will be open. Choons Awards will be releasing an album for the top 20 tracks from the composers. Each contestant is allowed to submit a maximum of 2 tracks (approximately 5 mins per track). The winner walks away with a cash prize of USD 1, 000 & sponsor’s products. All contestants (producers) will be invited to attend as judges review the tracks. Each track will be played and the judging is strictly transparent, where the contestants can view the results on the same day. Judging criteria will be announced at anytime.

Online voting begins on 3 March til 13 June

The winners of each category will walk away with a trophy, souvenirs or sponsor’s products.

16 June will be the awards presentation day. Awards to be presented include the Producer of the Year award, & the online voting 22 awards from the DJ poll. The exclusive Choons Awards 2012 CD will also be given away!
