Awards nights and DJ competitions have been everywhere lately, but nothing zooms in and gives big acknowledgement to the talent behind the clubbing and dance music scenes in Asia than the Choons Awards. Entering its second instalment this year, the awards was created by Low, head honcho of drum n bass scenesters Loops Collective and Bionic DJ Academy.
Unrelenting in his pursuits of keeping the local dance music scene alive, Low doesn’t recognise the words “give up”. And now with the Choons Awards, he’s taking it one step further. With a variety of categories triumphing Malaysia’s night movers and shakers, Choons Awards 2010 includes awards for songwriters, producers, composers, DJs, clubs, event photographers and just about anyone involved in the music and entertainment industries. This year, the Choons Awards is about to get bigger as it spreads its wings into the Asia Pacific market.
From its initial 8 categories, this year the awards encompasses 22 categories, with an entire section dedicated to talent from Sarawak. There’s also the Producers Award that allows entries from Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and not forgetting the brand new JUICEOnline Reader’s Choice DJ 2009/2010. It’s going to be a wild ride. Yee har!
