According to The Vibes, Hindu mother Loh Siew Hong can now finally reunite with her children after the High Court today (21 Feb) granted her a writ of habeas corpus for an immediate release of her three children from alleged unlawful detention.

A habeas corpus is a recourse in law through which a person can report an unlawful detention or imprisonment to a court and request that the court order the custodian of the person.

Loh filed the application through a notice of motion in the High Court on 13 February, naming Nazirah Nanthakumari Abdullah, a senior preacher at the Hidayah CentreFoundation and parties currently detaining her three children as the first and second respondents.

Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah, when delivering his judgement today, agreed with Loh’s lawyer A. Srimurugan that respondents in this matter had gone against court orders issued in 2019 and 2021 that grants the single mother full custody of the children.

“By reason of these court orders there, I allow the application for the writ of habeas corpus as per Enclosure-1 of the notice of motion. The three children are to be released forthwith into the sole custody, care, and control of the applicant,” said Sequerah.

Upon delivery of the decision, Loh could be seen breaking down in tears and had to be consoled by her lawyers.

ICYMI, Loh’s had divorced her ex-husband in March 2019.

While she was hospitalised with a foot injury that she claimed was inflicted by her former husband, Loh found out he had taken their kids without her knowledge and hid them.

She then obtained interim custody of her children in July 2019 pending her divorce, but her court case was delayed when the country went into Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020. Loh finally obtained full custody of her children in March 2021.

It was later learned that her ex-husband has been arrested and sent to jail in Kelantan, but even then she could not locate her kids.

After spending nine months in a futile search for her kids, she turned to the police for help and found out that her children were with an Islamic NGO which caters to Muslim converts. Accordingly, the children converted while under the care of the NGO, without her knowledge.

This case had caught the attention of netizens from the start as many empathised with Loh. Take a look at what some had to say:
