Cassey Gan: Warrior Spirit
Passion, be it discovered recently or long stifled, once that burning sensation has been unearthed, it is hard to silence it. Such is the case for Malaysian designer Cassey Gan, who was well on her path onto a career in chemical engineering until she decided to switch lanes into fashion designing. Her bold decision to change course has paid off in every sense of the phrase.
As a London College of Fashion graduate in Fashion Design Technology specialising in womenswear, Cassey’s graduate collection was selected for the institution’s external press show. She was also among the 30 students to be featured as the next-gen’s talent in the venerable Vogue Italia. The sheer magnitude of exposure that she garnered just after graduation should serve as a measure for her formidable talent.
Style and comfort are two of the designer’s philosophy for her label. As seen in her Onyx-themed collection, available exclusively to CUEvolution.com, the aesthetics revolve around loose-fitting silhouettes, with an eye kept on the unique pairing of fabrics, patterns, and textures – all in the pursuit of creating garments that are timeless.
The much-awaited capsule collection was inspired by one of the designer’s favourite books, a Taschen book on Japanese prints. Centred on the ebony gemstone Onyx and the samurai, the pieces in the collection comprise of mostly dark-coloured fabrics, which signify the quiet strength and dignity of the revered Japanese warriors. The natural magnificence of the onyx is reflected in the Spring/Summer collection through a tasteful introduction of gold and light material, evocative of the stone’s many facets.
Cassey Gan’s exclusive SS15 collection has limited sizes (01 and 02) and pre-orders take up to six weeks. Available for purchase online at www.CUEvolution.com.
