Broken Social Scene: Forgiveness Rock Record (Arts & Crafts)

Look at them as Arcade Fire’s cooler, outlaw brother. The one who isn’t afraid to experiment with the wildness of noise expanding up to 19 members at one point recruiting indie babes Feist and Emily Haines. With John McEntire as producer, past members led by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning appear on the highly awaited return.

And though it’s not the wild and decadent guitar pop we heard on 2001’s Feel Good Lost, this is BSS’ most concerted effort thus far at stretching their limits. Kooky bits and pieces do jump up occasionally over the collage of their dreamscape electronica tender ambient ballads, and fuzz and mess indie rock.
