Franz Ferdinand guitarist Nick McCarthy’s project band Box Codax releases their 2nd album Hellabuster on 9 May. Working together with London-based artist Manuela Gernedel (who’s also his wife) and charismatic German poet and old friend Alex Ragnew, Box Codax’s sophomore album is comprised of 13 songs narrating the life of a boy named Hellabuster.
As the follow-up to their debut album in 2006, Only An Orchard Away, Nick wrote the music for all the songs and also explores a less rock-related side not usually found with Franz Ferdinand. Emulating the style of film soundtracks, Box Codax’s 3-episode music video series can be viewed on YouTube, one of which has been directed by Franz Ferdinand’s Bob Hardy.
