Bombers from JB are Malaysia’s GBOB bet!
With their infectious display of showmanship, distinctly original sound and tightness as a band, it was not surprising that the Bombers came out tops as the best band to represent Malaysia at The Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB) World Finals. The band from Johor Bahru stood out from over 60 bands and prevailed as the judges’ unanimous choice over first runner up Bizharo, and 2nd runner up, Rosevelt, at a fully-packed and all-fired-up GBOB National Finals held at Dragonfly KL last 12th of February.
The five-man funky group consists of Sulaiman Bin Kadir (or Dino) on drums, Muhammad Gadadaffi Khan (or Fie) on bass, Henry Bin Darlis (or Boy) on guitar, Ahmad Nuredzuan Bin Mohd Zaizi (or Kid) on keyboards and Farid Bin Anuar (or Ayed) on vocals. Apart from winning the top honours, the Bombers were awarded RM50,000 worth of prizes (more than USD15,000 in value) which includes RM30,000 in cash, music instruments courtesy of Ultimate Music, a singles recording, mixing and mastering package from Tunestone Entertainment, and a fully-paid travel and accommodations package to attend the GBOB World Finals in KL which includes a four-day three-night stay at Pacific Regency Hotel Suites, together with all the participating bands from all over the world.
No strangers to the band contest scene, the Bombers have been joining band competitions since 2009. Their biggest achievement before GBOB was being Malaysia’s representative at the Yamaha Asian Beat Grand Finals in Hongkong in 2009. This time around at the GBOB World Finals, they will compete for the grand prize of US$100,000 band development package amongst 18 bands from 18 countries in a musical festival of live original music to be held at KL Live on Feb 26.
Head on down to KL Live to give your support and loudest cheers to Malaysia’s very own Bombers! There will be special performances by Kee Marcello from rock group Europe, Hujan and GBOB 2009 champion, Rustic. Audience will stand a chance to win metal-hot electric guitars in a lucky draw and the grand prize where the winner gets to accompany the GBOB World Champion to London in a UK tour as part of its band development package prize.
The Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB) World Finals will commence at 7pm on February 26 at KL Live, Life Centre on Jalan Sultan Ismail, KL. Tickets are priced at RM10 and will be sold at the door. All the details at the website.
