Blue Stahli: Beach Boys x Dubstep
We think it’s fair that we at JUICE let you know what this post is going to be about, just so you know what you’re getting yourself in to; dubstep, Beach Boys, fetish burlesque troupes and drag queen-fronted punk bands. What do you mean that sounds weird? Rilek brah, we’ll explain in a bit… like right now.
His name is Bret Autrey, and he is the man who started an electronic rock project named Blue Stahli back in ’07. We’ll save what he’s all about for later. First things first, he recently composed a remix for his friend that needed 30 seconds of 6 different Beach Boys songs (don’t roll yer eyes, give it a chance!) and the timing was great as it coincided with the Beach Boys reunion at the 54th Grammy Awards. So it’s sort of like a tribute. We actually really, really (yes, we wrote really twice… now three) like it. It has a feel-good vibe, makes us want to dance and because it’s Beach Boys, we can sing along to it too! Each second from this 3:31 minute track is worth it.
Who’s Bret? Well.. his website says, “He comes from a background of fetish burlesque troupes, drag queen fronted punk bands and believes that he is visited in his dreams by the ghost of [Junkie Writer] William S. Burroughs.” Interesting guy, we think.
You’d like him if:
– You’re into aggressive tunes.
– If you like alternative/heavy metal music with a dubstep twist.
– If you think Skrillex is the best thing since undercut hairstyle.
Stop making us persuade you, check him out already – you’ve read this much already.
