South Central LA native Blu has been showered with praise and and plaudits. The American rapper from San Pedro, California is a leader in the new school of LA emcees. In August 2007, his first release paired him up with producer Exile. Below The Heavens took hip hop back to the place where Freestyle Fellowship, Jurassic 5 and The Pharcyde left off.

John Barnes aka Blu’s delivery flows flawlessly, while his content reflects the joy and pain of working class youth everywhere. According to Blu, he got turned onto groups like De La Soul only after hearing DMX and cites Inspectah Deck of the Wu-Tang Clan, LA legend Cashus King and Planet Asia as big influences on his MC style.

With an undeniable presence, this 2009 looks to be a big year for Blu. Watch out for his projects including those with Johnson&Jonson with Mainframe and CRAC Knuckles with Ta’Raach.
