Free from binding record contracts, Beck is finally able to experiment again. Recruiting some famous friends – including MGMT, Devendra Banhart, Jamie Lidell and Radiohead’s unofficial 6th member Nigel Godrich – to form Record Club, the enigmatic singer-songwriter, who gave us the groundbreaking Odelay! and more recently Modern Guilt, will be banging out a series of 1-day sessions at which he and his collaborators will re-record classic albums.

The songs will be released once a week via Becks official website. According to Beck, none of the albums covered will be rehearsed and the artists involved will only have 1 day to lay down the entire album.

So what’s 1st on Beck’s list? Answer: A very daring remake of The Velvet Underground & Nico. Beck’s Record Club version of the album’s opening track ‘Sunday Morning’ is already circulating the net after it was distributed as a bonus 7″ with the re-release of his One Foot in the Grave album.
