After a decade long hiatus and the death of band member Carl Crack, German cyberpunks Atari Teenage Riot return with their 4th studio album Is This Hyperreal? Unfortunately, the band seems to have failed to keep up with the times.

The anarchical explosions of shouting choruses, basslines, synths and industrial sounds that was revolutionary during the 90s now feels amateurish and contrived. The political lyrics that the band is infamous for are lost amongst the cacophony, making them sound a lot more like whining teenagers rather than a meaningful call to rebellion.

The only saving grace in this album is ‘Blood in My Eyes’ which highlights former backing vocalist/noise programmer turned lead female vocalist Nic Endo’s singing abilities as well as paying homage to feminism like a Kill Bill movie.
