Astro Hitz Spin Master Returns!

Back for the 2nd year, DJ competition Astro Hitz Spin Master held its auditions at Zouk earlier this week. With the stakes risen, the winner will be the first Malaysian to spin at the prestigious Ministry of Sound in London. Now, that’s huge!

In case you didn’t know, Spin Master is Malaysia’s only televised DJ competition which was created to help those pencil-twirllers back in school (aka DJs today) forward their careers. Just kidding, but pencil-twirlling does improve disc-scratching, we think.

Last year saw DJ Reeve crowned champ for the first Spin Master. He has since spun at one of the top clubs in Brisbane, Australia called The Family. Success also followed finalist DJ Faith who was selected as the only Malaysian female DJ to spin at the Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Lounge recently.

According to host Joey G, this year’s edition will see a good dynamic from the judging panel. Local dance scene pioneer, DJ Gabriel, is in the hot seat representing the underground sound of dance along with electro geniuses Goldfish and Blink to select the top 16 finalists. The judges will pick the best 8 DJs and the other 8 will be chosen from public votes via online. For the finale, London’s The Gallery, Ministry Of Sound resident DJ Gavyn Mytchel will be joining them as guest judge.

Online voting starts this 19 May till 2 June via Astro Hitz Facebook page. To vote for the participant, simply click on the ‘like’ button. Isn’t that easy? Remember to vote wisely because we need someone who has the full package to represent our local dance scene in London. You heard us right, so please don’t vote for your kawan only but do listen to the music and judge for yourself.

The champion of Spin Master 2 will win an all-expense paid trip to London to spin a personal slot at The Gallery, Ministry Of Sound. To the finalists, you’ve got to do your homework very well because you are messing with the experts, man!
