Ashley Gan: Broken
Despite her tender age, Ashley has already designed a magazine from the ground up and has had her own exhibitions showcasing her art. Her recent works have been kindled from within, stemming from periods of soul-searching and eminent personal issues. This latest collection from her is titled Broken, and the pieces reflect the futility of trying to fix something that’s ruined – and also how no two pieces are ever shattered the same way (a metaphor for one’s psyche, maybe?). Inspired by papercraft artists Jill Sylvia and Annie Vought, the former design student used a knife to replicate patterns of broken glass with paper, as torn paper represents a similar imagery to that provided by shattered glass.
