Asher Roth: I Love College
Asher Paul Roth is a rapper from Pennsylvania and get this … he’s white. And being so, he just can’t shake the Eminem comparisons. In fact, he’s even dedicated a track on his new album to the famed Shady (‘As I Em’). But one good listen to Roth’s music and you’ll find this young dude closer to Beck than ol’ Em. More accurately citing his hip hop influences as Mos Def, The Roots, The Notorious BIG and OutKast, Roth’s lyrics revolve around middle-class white boy concerns (ie: eating pizzas, getting girls naked and beer bongs). Last year, Roth put out his first professional release, the Don Cannon and DJ Drama-helmed The Greenhouse Effect, via the internet. This year sees Roth’s major-label debut Asleep In The Bread Aisle and the super infamous first single ‘I Love College’ take off. If you haven’t heard of him yet, it’s time you got enrolled!
