ASEAN’s Best Band of redAmp 2010 Announced!
Â
Last Friday, great music filled Plaza Mont Kiara and crowds swarmed in to catch Mizz Nina, Colby O’ Donis, Hujan, Thaitanium and DJ Fuzz as well as the top 3 bands that totally owned the stage in the running for the grand prize of RM50,000 recording and distribution deal. Guess which band earn its spurs?
During the finale, the judges slid Malaysia’s band Stonebay from the top 10 to “wildcard band” which caused a rise of heat in the already intense competition. The 4 bands gave their best and were evaluated based on their vocals, showmanship, songwriting, image and overall presentation which contributed to their final scores. Votes from the two-week voting period also accounted for 30% of the final tally.
The five judges of the competition included redAmp 2010‘s chief judge Roslan Aziz (also co-founder of the Roslan Aziz Productions label), Editor-in-Chief of Rolling Stone Indonesia Adib Hidayat, founder of PhuturePhase Productions in Brunei Hans Anwar, Tony Ward representing Music Matter and last but not least Don Skelchy of Valleyarm. All five claimed it to be a very tough decision but the tribe has spoken, and the winner is…

Golden Dragon!
Â
These 10 year old “dragons” were the first band to perform and they set the stage on fire with a dramatic presentation that ended with explosive fireworks. The fact that they made their own costumes impressed the judges as much as their blasting performance of their song ‘Shen Tang’ (Palace of Gods).
And boy are we proud that one of Malaysia’s band is on the list; go Stone Bay! Yes, we at JUICE love and support our local act.
The result of the competition here:
1. Golden Dragon (redAMP 2010 ASEAN’s Best Band!)
2. Sixty Nine (1st Runner Up)
3. Stone Bay (2nd Runner Up)
4. Pancake 80 (3rd Runner Up)
Back to the flame-spitters. Making music in Mandarin, Golden Dragon consists of vocalists Icun Lin, Steven Zhang and Sanley Zhong together with keyboardist Bertho Yu, guitarist Dhanny Ji, bassist Andre Wu and drummer Henz Wei.
The group taste sweet smokey success when they walked away with a RM50,000 band development package, a recording contract and distribution deal with an international recording label as, well as an AirAsia e-voucher worth RM10,000. Golden Dragon also went on to perform over the weekend at the roadshow for MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia 2010 at Sunway Pyramid. The band’s aim to become the first commercial Mandarin music band to emerge from Indonesia is finally coming true!
Congratulations, Golden Dragon! (And Stone Bay!)
