Art For Grabs + KL Alternative Bookfest 2011 + Panda Head Curry Marathon
The Annexe Gallery is THE place to go to this weekend if you have an insatiable love for books, arts… and guitar shredding Pandas! Happening this weekend (18 and 19 June), Art For Grabs, the beloved homegrown arts and crafts bazaar is banding together with the annual KL Alternative Bookfest to feature vendors selling books, art and crafts, plus product launches, workshops, forums, gigs, film screenings, and many more. It’s like an indoor Woodstock reunion, minus the aging hippies.
Check out Fahmi Fadzil (the actor/activist/Internet troll who infamously tweeted 100 apologies after a defamation fiasco with BluInc) with an art booth of his own. Other booths to look out for include those by Amir Muhammad, Chi Too, Carolyn Lau, Nukilan, Aaron Lam, LoyarBurok, as well as Burmese refugee women in the central loft and Somali children in the other loft.
The event will also oversee book launches by various authors and publications like Zahiril Adzim, Sang Freud Press, Silver Fish Books and many more. Book titles like Bogel Menuju Tuhan and Sperma Cinta may usually raise conservative eyebrows, but that’s not going to happen at the KL Alternative Bookfest!
This year’s Art for Grabs is also hosting the 3rd album release of KL’s most enduring comedy punk outfit, The Panda Head Curry?, titled Straight Pride (The World Is My Closet). Happening on Sat 18 June at 7pm, The Panda Head Curry’s TIGALAGI gig will see the band perform all 3 albums (1000 Homo Humpbacks, Arsetronauts and Arseteroids, and their latest Straight Pride) live for an estimated 2 hours straight! No other local band has tried such a feat before! This is a testament to their steady stamina and unstable mental state. What’s more interesting is that TPHC’s drummer, Baby Panda Cat, is just a 12-year old girl!
Check out these exciting events and more at the The Annexe Gallery, KL on 18 and 19 June 2011 from 12pm to 8pm. For more info, log on to www.annexegallery.com.
