Malaysia is infamous for various reasons — traffic jams, hiring witch doctors to solve problems, but mostly for the damnedest things our ministers would say. It’s important to be able to laugh at these situations or else you’d go mad, which is something you’d be able to do at this event. Art For Grabs’ Have A Balloon is an event that celebrates democracy and freedom while embracing the circus that our country is shaping into.

Over 80 booths, causes, and such – not mentioning 11 events happening within its two-day period! – will be set up during that weekend, plus a heap of brain picking activities for everyone to enjoy. Among the few planned are Klash of The Titans, it’s a Politiko tournament with actual political figures such as Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, Serdang MP Ong Kiang Ming, Political Scientist Wong Ching Huat, and Human Rights lawyer Edmund Bon Tai Soon. An interesting lineup, no doubt.  There’s also a poetry performance by the guys who host If Walls Could Talk — cheekily titled Poetically Correct — which will see nine poets describing what it takes to be free in a country that doesn’t fully practise democracy. There are also multiple forum discussions regarding sedition, feminism, and Big Brother governing.

Those are only a few of what will go down on the Have a Balloon weekend, check out the itinerary in its entirety here.
