GBOB might sound like the techie name for gross green globÂ (don’t forget techies also came up with the word donggle), but the ugliest acronym ever actually stands for Global Battle of the Bands, which is pretty exciting. The world’s biggest live music competition for bands is back and seeking entries now.Â At stake is RM50k worth of prizes and the chance to represent the country at the world meet in London this December 13. With a target of more than 80 to 100 bands local bands expected to battle it out for prizes and the conveted winning spot, the challenge will be divided intoÂ 4 qualifying heats with the National Malaysia Finals due to take place on November 14 at the Titanium Super Dance Club inÂ PJ. The national winner will bag a cool RM50,000 worth of prizes and the chance to rep in London where there is the world champion glory and a a cool US $100 000 to be won. Yowzaa!
With more than 46 countries participating, this battle is gonna be heated, but Malaysian bands have never sounded better. Local Qualifying Heat 1and 2Â takes place at Shine Classique onÂ Heritage Row this October 17 and 24, Qualifying Heat 3 and 4 goes down at Borneo Rainforest atÂ Sunway in Bandar Sunway on October 30 and November 7, and as previously mentioned the eventual National Finals rocks out for glory at Titanium Super Dance Club inÂ PJ on November 14.
