Looks like bands are pushing past the more immediate aspects of ’80s music (synths and beats) to re-capture more of the insidious elements of the era (melodies and lyrics). Melbourne quintet Architecture in Helsinki tones down the flim-flam flummery for an ’80s FM radio polished gleam.

That’s not to say the band’s no longer enjoyable: ‘Contact High’, ‘Escapee’ and ‘Yr Go To’ connects with the right balance of kitschy pop sounds and indie derring-do to make them a quirky band of note.
