Ai Weiwei is a contemporary artist and human rights activist who had his passport revoked and all travelling opportunities denied for four years because of suspected ‘tax evasion’, which was really punishment for refusing to be a subservient citizen. He’s put up on a pedestal by his peers in China for standing his ground and beliefs despite the consequences that came with it (i.e. being beaten up by authorities). Independent film director Alison Klayman had the opportunity to document a side of the artist that we’ve been deprived of in the documentary film Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry. Lucky for us, Under9 will be hosting a free movie screening accompanied with drinks and food that can be ordered off their menu. Get yourself cultured.
