A petrol station manager from Seberang Prai, Penang, gambled away part of her business’ earnings during CNY recently, and was arrested by police at her workplace this afternoon for filing a false report.

The 58 year-old alleged yesterday that she was robbed by an unknown man at the parking lot of the petrol station in Sungai Rambai. Amongst her claimed losses were RM30,000 of the company’s money, which was kept inside an envelope.

But the aunty was not in luck as the police, in the course of their investigation, found discrepancies in her claims. After examining the CCTV footage of the scene, they found that no such incident happened.

Upon further questioning, the police established that she had lodged a false report. “She claimed she was robbed when she actually spent about RM16,100 of the company’s money on gambling and preparations for Chinese New Year,” said Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid.

Nik Ros Azhan said the suspect had kept another RM18,900 in the petrol station, which the police have since seized for investigation.

“To make her story believable, she also threw her personal belongings, including her cell phone and personal documents, into a dustbin along Jalan Padang Lalang to make it look like it had been snatched from her,” he added.

Too bad for the aunty tupai as she will be remanded at the Bukit Mertajam court tomorrow and likely be spending the night in lock up.
