LISTEN: Adam Kasturi’s ‘Simulacra Neo Kolumpo’ Paints KL as a Cyberpunk Monolith

With the live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell just a few days away from its release, and Blade Runner 2049 coming out later this year (6 October in the US), cyberpunk is returning to mainstream consciousness in full swing. Adam Kasturi’s recent drop, ‘Simulacra Neo Kolumpo’, couldn’t have come out at a better time. Continuing the thesis statement of AMOK, the track runs with the idea of Kuala Lumpur as a cyberpunk city, but as opposed to coming to the conclusion that it already is one, here it’s presented as a mere simulacrum. While Adam’s random drops are rarer these days (he’s usually more prolific), if the recent episode of BFM Into the Blue is to be believed, there’s a new record coming our way soon.
