Calling all young designer entrepreneurs out there! Here’s your chance to share your creativity with the world. The International Young Design Entrepreneur of the Year (IYDE) award, organised by the British Council, is an annual global search for the brightest and best young international design entrepreneur.
Back for the second time this year, the IYDE national winner will travel to the United Kingdom this September to take part in the finals. Along with the title is a financial award of £7,500 (RM39,000) to be spent on a collaborative project with the British Council in the winner’s country.
The IYDE is opened to design entrepreneurs aged between 25 and 35 who are already active professionally in the local design sector, as defined in the following:
•   Architecture, interior and environment
•   Product design manufacture: furniture, industrial products and craft
•   Design promotion: exhibitions, events, festivals and retail
•   Consultants providing specialist services in any of the areas outlined
Also in store for the national winner is a visit around Belfast, Glasgow and London to provide a tailored introduction to the UK design sector, including meetings with senior industry figures and attendance at 100% Design – the UK’s leading contemporary interiors event that attracts leading manufacturers and star designers from the UK and around the world.
During the visit, all finalists will make a presentation to the UK jury about their work and about their understanding of, and vision for, design in their country. The winner will later be announced at an award ceremony in September at 100% Design.
IYDE follows closely in the footsteps of its sister award the International Young Music Entrepreneur of the Year. Last year’s national winner was none other than Ng Si Juan of BigBrosWorkshop and co-organiser of KL Design Week.
The International Young Design Entrepreneur of the Year is opened from March 16 until 14 June.
