HIPSTER LONGEVITY
Bombay Bicycle Club is one effing clever band. With their fourth full length, they prove that bandwagon-jumping is key to longevity in a hipster’s playlist. They have scene-shifted from indie punk to folk to indie dance, and now, happy-camper electronic pop. It makes for a bad name among chin-scratching critics, but for fans, it means that the band knows what flavoured popsicles need to be served to sell: ‘Overdone’ and ‘Carry Me’ should light up all tented iterations of outdoorsy hipster rock fests (Upfront Arena, here’s the second band for this year’s lineup!).

Frontman Jack Steadman has made it no secret that he’s an admirer of radio pop, on So Long, See You Tomorrow, he shows that he isn’t just a fan. He’s learnt a thing or two about composing keen pop tracks as well. You’d only need to listen to ‘It’s Alright Now’ to detect the pilfering of music critics-approved pop rock into their template.

It’s not as successful as say, Passion Pit, which we wager is due to the overload of saccharine charm on each of the track on the album. It turns out, Steadman just doesn’t have the darkness of Michael Angelakos underneath the euphoric rhythm of the record.

LISTEN TO: ‘Overdone’
IF YOU LIKE THIS YOU’LL DIG: Passion Pit
