30 Seconds to Mars: Exclusive Album Preview Party @ Heli Lounge Bar

We at JUICE were lucky enough to be invited by Universal Music Malaysia for an exclusive preview party of LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS (LLFD), the fourth studio (and arguably most unexpected) record by modern rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. Rumours of the band’s retirement last year were thrown out the 34th window of Heli Lounge Bar with the release of what lead singer Jared Leto described as “a brand new beginning”.

Hosted by Moots from Pop Shuvit, the preview party was attended by several local acts that are fans of Thirty Seconds to Mars such as Pop Shuvit, One Buck Short, They Will Kill Us All, The Azenders, Pretty Ugly, and S.O.G. After a brief speech by Mr Loan Cheong, the Managing Director of Universal Music Malaysia, the crowd turned to the LCD screen for a montage of the band’s previous music videos as well as clips of their energetic live performances.

Soon after, the attendees were treated to five tracks from LLFD such as ‘City of Angels’, ‘Conquistador’, ‘Bright Lights’, ‘The Race’, and lastly the ambitious music video for their first single ‘Up In The Air’. Although we didn’t get to listen to the album in its entirety, the five tracks previewed at the party were clear indications of the band’s departure in terms of sound and genre. Personally, we prefer the energetically raw sounds that defined the band in A Beautiful Lie and This is War, not the overtly electronic elements in LLFD. This record might attract new fans but we definitely hope that for the next studio album, the band would return to their roots.

After the session, attendees were treated to a buffet dinner courtesy of Heli Lounge Bar with music provided by Rahul of One Buck Short. We were also invited to experience the view from the helipad upstairs. Needless to say, it was definitely not for those with acrophobia as we were treated to a magnificent 360-view of KL city. Overall, it was a night that reflects the Thirty Seconds to Mars’ love for the unexpected and groundbreaking new heights and we at JUICE are proud to be part of it.
