Godspeed You! Black Emperor started off with the efforts of Efrim (guitar), Mike (guitar) and Mauro (bass), who formed the band after being offered a slot as a supporting act to Steak 72. Literally growing bigger than their fellow Canadians, GY!BE slowly expanded into a 9-man band and have since been equated to the genius of Radiohead filtered through complex string arrangements, creating a post-apocalyptic soundtrack for today’s indie kids and reducing Arcade Fire to a pop band in the process.

Their comeback, first studio album in a decade, ‘Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! has won the hearts of their devoted fans, seeming that The Guardian’s Dom Lawson has even rated the album a 5 out of 5 stars, adding that “the Godspeed ethos of wordlessly eliciting universal truths is remains as devastatingly effective as ever.” Now that Soundscape has done their part in bringing them down to Kuala Lumpur, be sure to catch them this April, especially since Malaysia is the only South East Asia location on their tour list!
