After last year’s Rockaway Festival, there’s been nothing but buzz surrounding this year’s event that had recently revealed a solid lineup featuring an even heavier slew of performances as compared to last year, not to mention the focus on homegrown talent. While the current lineup has proven impressive with the likes of Soulfly, MxPx Allstars, Unearth, Love Me Butch, Massacre, Bunkface, I, Revival, The Padangs and Go Gerila, there has been some crazy additions to the main stage final lineup with acts from the US, South East Asia, and even our very own backyard. So without further ado, we bring to you the final lineup of Rockaway Festival 2012!

MAINSTAGE

SOULFLY (US)
Upon his exit from Sepultura in late 1996, singer/guitarist/songwriter, Max Cavalera almost automatically set out to form his next musical endeavor, the ultra-heavy Soulfly. Most bands slow down with age, but not Soulfly. Seven records in and they still create chaos better than anyone in this century. Now, the band is coming to our shores to incite a musical uprising with new material from Enslaved, their eighth album under Roadrunner Records.

MXPX (US)
A touring line-up of MxPx featuring frontman Mike Herrera, Jose Garzon of FLF on guitar and Harley Trotland of Tumbledown, on drums have been included into our Rockaway Festival line-up to appease all punk rock fans out there. MxPx have recently released their ninth studio album, Plans Within Plans this year and they can’t wait to showcase it to their Malaysian fans. The trio’s latest release caps off their 20-year career and as evident in the recent documentary about the band, Both Ends Burning, they’ve been traversing the globe nonstop, showcasing their trademark brand of positive punk to millions of fans all over the world.

UNEARTH (US)
Charging out of the late 90s Massachusetts underground in a storm of thunderous riffs and focused aggression, Unearth proudly stands at the forefront of modern metal. With Darkness In the Light, their fifth full-length, the quintet have delivered their most honest, powerful, and compelling statement to date. They drive a fist into the collective gut of every image-obsessed wannabe metal band currently cluttering up the landscape, and setting a new standard when it comes to marrying precision brute force and exhilarating melody.

SET YOUR GOALS (US)
Set Your Goals is a San Francisco based pop punk band with hardcore influences and two vocalists. Formed in 2004, the band name comes from melodic hardcore band CIV’s first album, Set Your Goals. In a music scene that’s dominated by fads and Internet icons, Set Your Goals have built their fan base the old-fashioned way by hard work and relentless touring.

PEE WEE GASKINS (INDO)
In the two years since they got together, Pee Wee Gaskins, a pop-punk group based in Jakarta, has rapidly leapt from the indie scene to the mainstream. With a single full-length album under their belt, the band has been featured in numerous magazines, including Hai, Rolling Stone Indonesia and Trax, as well as appearing on TV shows like O Channel’s Demo and MTV Indonesia.

PLAINSUNSET (SG)
Best known for their high-energy performances, irreverent stage banter and catchy tunes, Plainsunset is the shape of punk to come. To label them as a pop- punk band is inadequate – yet at heart they still fiercely embody the punk-rock mentality that continually shapes their music and ethics. Plainsunset specialise in crafting some of the most memorable sing-along anthems this side of South East Asia, and it is a common sight to see and hear their audiences singing along to the point of overpowering the band!

LOVE ME BUTCH (MY)
Love Me Butch doesn’t require much introduction. Being the post-hardcore darlings of the Malaysian music scene, they’ve opened for international bands like Saosin, Coheed & Cambria and Deftones.  Instead of sitting on the major commercial success of their 2005 single ‘Hollywood Holiday’, the quartet strived for regional acclamation by touring most of Southeast Asia. The band had recently released a new album Worldwide Transgression that’s available in stores now.

GERHANA SKACINTA (MY)
A Kuala Lumpur based ska, rocksteady, reggae & dub band, Gerhana Skacinta emerged from the ska revival scene of Malaysia in the late 1990s. While third-wave ska bred new faces and new categories; ska-punk, ska-pop, ska-core, Gerhana Skacinta stayed the traditional path, remaining faithful to a kind of roots purity. This purity wasn’t based on snootiness or exclusivity, but on a determination that some music is timeless.

HUJAN (MY)
Award-winning Malaysian band, Hujan has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Formed in early 2006, throughout their six-year music career, Hujan have not only won fans amongst the Malaysian independent scene but they have also managed to break into the mainstream market. Their repertoire as a band have been performed at busking corners, small art markets, local gigs to prestigious awards shows and arena concerts. Armed with a strong stage presence and catchy alternative rock songs, it’s safe to say that they’ve changed the landscape of the Malaysian music industry.

KOFFIN KANSER (MY)
Formed in 1996, Koffin Kanser received fast recognition in local music scene. The band is heavily influenced by the 80’s thrash metal bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax to name a few. One of the most influential and earliest metal bands in Malaysia, Koffin Kanser have never failed to thrill the audience everytime they take to the stage.
