Adidas 60 Years Of Soles & Stripes @ Zouk
Adidas Originals celebrated 60 years of souls and stripes by taking over 3 rooms in Zouk in an all night bender. With an 8pm start time, the queues of sneaker and streetwear fans were shuffling their way forwards ready to receive their Adidas Originals cotton totes stuffed with trefoil goodies.
Inside, Zouk was heaving when Henry Golding and Daphne Iking introduced the Spring Summer 09 collection. We couldn’t see the gear from back where we were, but had a fair idea (as will anyone who checked out our coverage in the November and December issues) with the Women’s Select Pack, a collection of items in signature blue and white with well strategised logo use being among those items we tip for big things.
The soundtrack, which was a slamming mix of hip hop and grime and featured Calvin Harris and Wiley, was a JUICE dream (can we get more of that in clubs please?) and laid down by Sneaker Freaker Hand DC (later spotted behind the decks of Bar Sonic upstairs alongside the TAG crew). Eyewear seemed to be massive both literally and figuratively, even if it wasn’t all Adidas Originals merch, and the biggest cheers were reserved for Goldfish, who while commanding behind the decks, isn’t unfamiliar with larging it up on the runway either.
Sadly the internet issues that Malaysia has been plagued recently meant the live feed never happened despite our Milan travel buddy, Wilfred Mong from Adidas Singapore, desperately working the wires upstairs, so Singapore, Manila, Bangkok and Jakarta partied on without us. Competitions came by way of a short Q & A and a walkoff, while one (design) guy and his Vespa waited to find out if he had won out against the rest of the region to bag a trip to Milan.
It was then models to Phuture, where Goldfish knocked out some mean hip hop by way of 50 and Kanye, and the rest of us to Aristo to sit it out with drinks, canapés and the Adidas Originals international House party ad lopped infinitum. Which if you were to draw a direct correlation between that slick ad and our own Adidas Originals house party, would make Stephanie Chai, Bobo, Rico Cheng, and Arafah (who was wearing Nike) the equivalent of Katy Perry, Russell Simmons, David Beckham and Estelle. Sinden was scheduled to hit the decks at 11.30pm, but by 10pm the masses had began making their way back to Zouk for Lapsap as squelchy fidgety beats bounced around the room and were cheered on by the floor. By the time Sinden did came on after scheduled time, JUICE had snuck off. In our Adidas sneakers of course…. Happy Birthday, Adidas!
It all went down at Zouk on Friday February 27. More snaps from the party coming your way soon.
