Guinness St Patrick’s Day Launch @ Hakka Republic

Last night, Guinness marked the start of a shamrockin’ St Patrick’s Day celebration for the entire month of March with a media launch party at Hakka Republic. Like leaping leprechauns chasing gold, JUICE toddled to the party with our St Paddy’s hats on our heads.

St Patrick’s Day is a traditional Irish festival dating back many centuries. Nowadays, anyone can be Irish on St Patrick’s Day by celebrating with music, food, drinks and good-spirited fun. Coincidentally, this year also marks 250 years of Guinness, which is a good excuse to throw an even grander party for all to enjoy.

The launch party itself was a good indication of high spirits. The LCD screen showed the lighting up of landmarks from cities around the world where St Patrick’s Day had a huge following, and ended with our own KL Tower, which was visible from the venue, shining bright and green.

After feasting our eyes on the marvellous sight, it was time to do the same with our tummies. Throughout the evening we had a sample of delightful Guinness-infused canapes specially prepared by Hakka Republic. For the month of March, Guinness-serving outlets will be having a special promotion of St Patrick’s Day-inspired dishes teamed with Guinness-infused sauces created by celebrity chef Emmanuel Stroobant aka Chef in Black. In addition, if you buy a Guinness-infused main course you’ll also receive a complimentary pint of Guinness Draught.

More good news followed later that night as JUICE participated in a party game (with Stuff editor Ken and celebrity blogger Kenny Sia) as team Bono’s Balls and won 1st Prize! Yay! We each got a RM300 voucher to spend at Hakka Republic and almost immediately, we had “friends” (aka freeloaders!) making dinner arrangements with us.  As the evening grew dark, we finished our last glass and bounced away with a little Irish joy in us all.

This year, Guinness will be bringing not one, but two St Patrick’s Day celebrations, in 1 Utama, PJ and Juru Auto City, Penang on 13 and 14 March 2009 respectively. See you there and don’t forget your hat!
