No more quiet night outs at Jalan Bangkung with friends over a few sexy cocktails, art and music. Attic used to feel like home when we needed to getaway from it all. It was unpretentious, friendly and we could get parking. But we all grow up sometimes and as Attic had found the kind of success you can’t contain in a residential neighbourhood it was time for them to bust out and move up – to Capsquare.

Now renamed and centrally located mere minutes away from Asian Heritage Row, in what promises to be the next new ‘hood to hang at, Urbanattic is bigger and depending on who you talk to, arguably better. Both its industrial design and entertainment policy is targeted at the young and restless. The big draw here is its live music. Now that they have the space and license to be loud, from bazaars, singer-songwriter gigs, talent searches and of course jazz, Urbanattic is all out establishing itself as the place for live entertainment – and KL can always do with more of that.

On Mondays jam with the house band at the open mic night then rock on with rising underground rock bands at Tuesday’s Rock Hysteria. Singer-songwriters take to the stage for Wednesday’s Acoustic Awe. Thursday is all about fashion with Fashion Fix, which rotates a series of stylish events, among them the Junk in the Trunk Bazaar of new and preloved items, Watch N Shop Fashion Show & Sale featuring a different independent boutique each time and Fashion Flirt which showcases the work of new designers. This should have you warmed up for the weekend ahead. Friday’s Urban Funk Blues starts with live blues and rock ‘n’ roll and ends with a DJ set from midnight, while Saturday’s Billboard Attack (which has nothing to do with illegal advertising in PJ) sees DJ Bryan G going at it all night long with a chart topping pop playlist.

As part of the furniture, we loved Attic for its elaborate cocktails, having tried just about everything on the menu (hic!). With a different clientele, it’s going to be about the house pours, Long Island Ice Teas and Cosmos. The upside is the affordable prices means more for less. A bigger venue, new friends, more cocktails and music, all within the city … we could live with this.
