Hartamas’ night scene has been dead for quite a while, with only a handful of loyal pubs to quench the locals. But with the recent launch of the massive Supperclub, the township will definitely be a lot brighter.
As Supperclub’s launch was on a Friday night, throngs of white-collar partiers flocked. The streets were backed up with cars all the way to a different post code. Neatly tucked away in a corner of Hartamas’ commerce area, just behind Coffee Bean, JUICE had a warm Mardi Gras welcome at the entrance. Short of midgets, they had women in peacock outfits, fire-dancers and jesters on poles to greet us.
Stepping into the Supperclub is like entering into an alternate universe. Art pieces fill the walls and even the toilets – Andy Warhol will stare at you while you *ahem. Reminiscent of Movement’s glory days, Supperclub is huge – almost the size of an Ampang shopping mall. Chairs, tables and a well constructed watering hole occupy most of the ground floor in the 2-storey club.
Supperclub’s centre of attention is its dance floor. Though a bit small for a club of this size, it was hooked up to all the belts, whistles and lights. Upstairs the vibe is more relaxed with its balcony and a great view of the action below. But JUICE wasn’t interested in fresh air. We were interested in the free flow and food.
Yes, Supperclub went all out to treat their potential patrons that night. With a mix of house, r ‘n’ b, trance spun by resident DJs Nitesin, Dave T and Jordan X, and a full week of events lined up – Chemistry Ladies Night every Wednesday, Gorgeous Ladies Nite every Thursday, and Fashionista Fridays and the Glamourous Saturday Weekender Party at the weekend - there’s enough reason to come back.
