Music is a funny thing indeed. A song takes you back to a specific time and place in your life, especially so during your teenage years. When I was growing up, songs spoke to me when no one understood how i felt. For many of us, Jimmy Eat World was our band of choice even when some laughed them off as “emo”.

Sure, back in the day they weren’t as cool as Foo Fighters or as obscure as Radiohead.  In contrast, Jimmy Eat World was just a simple alternative band from Arizona armed with catchy hooks and rather straightforward lyrics. But really, isn’t that the formula to a long lasting pop song anyway?  It was clear that people flocked to see hear songs from Jimmy Eat World’s older albums, Static Prevails, Clarity, and Bleed American. This concert was nothing short of nostalgia especially when band opened with ‘Bleed American’ and ‘Praise Chorus’ and played some of their newer songs in between classics like ‘Pain’ and ‘Futures’. Fans, including, er myself went mental when Jimmy Eat World played ’23’. Suffice to say, I lost my voice singing and screaming at the top of my lungs. I know no shame when in a foreign country.

And so an hour and a half flew by and even with a 3 song encore: ‘Invented’, ‘The Middle’ and ‘Sweetness’, everyone was still hoping for Jimmy Eat World to continue playing.. High on adrenaline and our voices gone from all the screaming, we went home with smiles on our faces.

Jimmy Eat World Live in Singapore was held @ The Coliseum Hard Rock Hotel Singapore on 1 April 2011.
